And please, if there is anything else we can do or any answers we can provide, let us know. We’re ready to support you in any way possible.
Steps to Ensuring You Receive Your COVID-19 Aid Package
The most critical thing you can do to get your check fast is to make sure that you’ve done your 2018 and 2019 taxes. The government is looking to direct deposit checks over the next weeks and will use the direct deposit info they already have on file.
Previous stimulus checks issued by the government went through the direct deposit or mail route. However, the mobile payment app Venmo has also offered to play a role in distributing the funds. We’ll have to wait to see if this indeed happens.
One clear thing is that the government prefers to use the direct deposit method, so our advice to get it done if you haven’t already.
If you filed taxes 2018 or 2019 and received a refund…
If you were one of the 92 million Americans that received tax refunds via a direct deposit, then there isn’t anything else you need to do. Your stimulus check will be deposited into the same account.
If you did not file taxes…
If your account information is not on file either because you did not make enough to file taxes or because you have yet to file your tax return, then file your taxes as soon as possible. The government has stated that the 2019 taxes will include information gathering questions for direct deposit of your check.
Those who typically don’t file taxes can complete a simplified version specifically for getting their aid.
If you did file taxes, but your account information is not on file…
Over the next few weeks, the government will create a web portal where you can submit your bank information for direct deposit.
If none of these options work for you, rest assured that your check will be mailed to you.
Who is eligible, and how much can you expect?
Those with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 (individuals) and up to $150,000 (married couples filing jointly) will receive the full payment of $1,200 (individuals) or $2,400 (married) plus $500 for each qualifying child. If your income exceeds those amounts, your payment is reduced by $5 for each $100 above the $75,000/$150,000 limits.
Note that single filers with income above $99,000 and or joint filers above $198,000 with no children are not eligible for stimulus aid.
